Nearly all modern hardware supports virtualization, but there is a chance that you will have to enable it through your system’s UEFI. Regardless of whether you are installing Hyper-V onto Windows Server or Windows 10, your hardware will need to support virtualization. When you select the Hyper-V role, be sure to allow Windows to install the various supporting features. You can find the option to install Hyper-V on the wizard’s Server Roles screen, as shown below. It asks you to choose which server you want to install roles or features onto and then asks you want to install. This will cause Windows to launch the Add Roles and Features Wizard. You can install Hyper-V in Windows Server by launching Server Manager and then selecting the Add Roles and Features command from the Manage menu. Only some of the Windows 10 editions (such as Windows 10 Pro) include Hyper-V. If you don’t see the option to enable Hyper-V, then it may not be included with your version of Windows. Now, choose the Hyper-V option, as shown below, and click OK. From there, click on the Programs and Features link, and then click on Turn Windows Features On or Off. In Windows 10, go to Services and then click on Apps and Features. Installing Hyper-V works a little bit differently depending on whether you are installing it onto Windows 10 or Windows Server. That being the case, I wanted to revisit the topic of Hyper-V for beginners and talk about how to perform some common tasks. As several people have pointed out over the years, however, that article focuses more on what you can do with Hyper-V rather than how to actually use it. A few years ago, I published an article on this site that was intended to be a total beginner’s guide to Hyper-V.
